IU Kokomo Senior Reese Johnson competing during the final match of the women’s tennis fall season against Huntington University. the Lady Cougars ended up losing 5-2 against the Foresters.

The Indiana University Kokomo women’s tennis team squared off against Huntington University on Oct. 7.

The Cougars ultimately came up short losing 5-2. The Cougars started by securing the doubles points with victories from senior duo Gabbie Orlando and Reese Johnson.

This was Johnson’s last season for IU Kokomo as she is graduating in December. Johnson’s single match went down to the wire where she ultimately came up short dropping the tiebreaker 10-8.

Johnson has had a solid career for the Crimson and Cream accumulating multiple doubles victories with Orlando. This match marks her final one, thank you Reese Johnson, and good luck in all your future endeavors.

The doubles of junior Larissa O’Rourke and freshmen Maria Oliviera won their doubles matchup 6-2 securing the point.

Orlando was spectacular again defeating her opponent in #1 singles with sets of 6-1, 6-4. Unfortunately, that was the last point the Cougars would score as Huntington swept the rest of the singles matches winning 5-2.

“I am so proud of these ladies; they worked their tails off all year,” Johnson said in an interview after the match. “It will not be the same without Reese but I’m looking forward to my final season in the spring and just soaking it all in one last time.”

“There were some really close matches and the ladies fought hard all year,” said tennis super-fan and IU Kokomo alum Carson Pocock after the match. “I’ve been to every match this season and these ladies showed grit all year and as a fan, it was great to see.”  This concludes the fall season for tennis, as they will pick back up in the spring of 2023.
