Men’s basketball recap

Men%E2%80%99s+basketball+recap

As the River States Conference men’s basketball season nears its conclusion, the Indiana
University Kokomo Cougars, with just three games remaining on their schedule, are in excellent
shape heading into the postseason.
IU Kokomo started off strong with back-to-back victories at the Governor’s State Classic,
where they defeated Governor’s State University followed by an upset of #19 William Penn. Two
weeks later, the Cougars participated in the Bevo Francis Invitational, another multi-school
event, where they again went 2-0.
The Cougars cruised to an 8-0 record, remaining perfect until November 29th, where they
took their first loss of the season against IU East. This was immediately followed by another loss
to IU Southeast, before a 5-0 stretch of games boosted their record further.
January was defined by dominant victories and narrow losses for the team. A 101-69
victory over Alice Lloyd and an impressive 84-69 road win against #21 Point Park were high
points of the season for the Cougars, but they also took a two-point loss to Saint Mary-of-the-
Woods and an eight-point loss to WV Tech, close games that could have easily gone either way.
Nearing the end of their season, the Cougars hold an overall record of 19-6 and a 9-6
record in conference games. The team’s final game of the season will be February 24th when they
travel to Brescia University. From here, the Cougars look forward to the River States Conference
Tournament.
IU Kokomo is currently second place in the conference’s western division, trailing only
Saint Mary’s, meaning the Cougars are in great position for the RSC tournament. Last season,
the team finished as the conference runners-up and earned an at-large bid to the national
tournament, and this year’s squad is in prime position to find similar success.
