Our friends and favorite content creators influence us in many ways. For this issue’s featured artist Alex Guldi these words ring true.
“My biggest inspirations are my friends but Nicholas Marlet who worked on How to Train Your Dragon, and Wendigoon the YouTube channel also helped me ignite an idea for a project,” Guldi said. “I draw my inspiration in my art from my own experiences and friends, as well as understanding the human experience. Regarding style inspiration, I cite Western cartoons and biology I love to design creatures and monsters based on mythology and science, Guldi added,”
The first piece is called Squish. “Squish was a study I did on using shadows and line art to imply soft textures and push dimension,” Guldi said.
The second piece is called Behold the Mothman. “Behold the Mothman was a study on lighting against fur and bat wings,” Guldi explained.
The final piece is titled Bloodlust. “This excerpt is a fully rendered and colored page from a
comic book I am writing,” Guldi said.
Alex is a senior NMAT major with plans to go to grad school overseas. “My ultimate goals are to get into the University of Edinburgh to get my master’s and after that, I want to get into the videogame or animation industry to make games or cartoons focusing on mental health and relationships.
