Businesses from across Howard County set up their tables in Alumni Hall on Nov 7 for the annual Career Fair at IU Kokomo.
Students and members of the community came to see the different types of jobs that are available in their area. Each table had a representative from their business and some information about potential job opportunities and internships.
Students Bre Bentley and Sylvia Samborska both attended the career fair last year and decided to come back again this year.
“I think it’s a great opportunity for people to find what they are interested in and a way to get there and find internships,” Bentley said. “I might try to get one of the internships, I grabbed a paper and am interested.”
“It’s a good way to connect to people,” Samborska said. “I also love the little freebies, such a cute idea.”
There were several businesses in attendance Including, but not limited to, the retail store Buckle, Development Services Inc. (DSI) also known as Bona Vista, and the Kokomo-Howard County Public Library.
Caitlyn Meyers is the store manager at Buckle in the Markland Mall in Kokomo. She shared that they are looking for interns. The internship would last three months focusing on a different area each month. Some skills they are looking for are sales, leadership and being outgoing. If you are interested in business management or need an internship this could be the place for you.
Jalyn Windsor is the HR Generalist/Recruiter at DSI here in Kokomo. She shared that they have internships available as well as many other job opportunities. They are holding an Art Exhibition Fri. Nov 8 at The Crossing Art Gallery where pieces will be displayed and some available for purchase made by the people at DSI.
Christine Tate is Head of Human Resources at the Kokomo-Howard County Public Library. There are many jobs that a library offers. You don’t just have to be a librarian to work there, she said. The library offers part time jobs in several different areas.
“We try to be very flexible with our part time workers because a majority of them are students and we understand how hard it can be to balance both work and school,” Tate said. “Plus, it looks great on a resume because a library is a universal work, no matter where you live there will usually be one.”
If you are interested in learning more, reach out to your local business and see if they are hiring or offer an internship to help you reach that next step in your business journey.
