The Mia Goth and Ti West horror trilogy is perfect for a watch party or movie marathon to get into the Halloween spirit. “Pearl”, “X”, and “Maxxxine” tell a captivating story with shocking R-rated visuals.
The trilogy begins with “Pearl”, a movie about a girl that wishes she was anywhere other than the farm she lives on with her parents. Pearl has a bigger vision for herself, but she faces the challenges of the Spanish Influenza pandemic of (1918). Pearl will stop at nothing to live her dream of being a star.
“X” follows character Maxine Minx as she begins her career in the adult film industry. This movie includes more than just blood and guts, so proceed with caution. Maxine and her crew face unexpected, horrific challenges while filming. The most interesting part about this movie is the cast list: Brittany Snow, Kid Cudi, and Jenna Ortega. All bring their best to this over-the-top slasher film.
“Maxxxine” completes the trilogy with a deeper dive into the life of Maxine Minx. Before she moves forward in her career she must deal with her past. Fortunately for the viewer, but unfortunately for her there are some demonic mystery elements that further the plot while eloquently wrapping it up.
Mia Goth and Ti West push the limits of the horror genre by including a compelling plot, stellar acting, and graphic horror elements. The only issue is that the whole trilogy is not on one streaming platform. Pearl can be found on Netflix, whereas “X” and “Maxxxine” are both on Max. For those that only have one of these platforms, Pearl and “X” can be watched independently of each other. There are small connections in the plot that might be lost, but the movies are substantial enough on their own to enjoy watching.
