On Nov. 30, Field: A Journal of Arts and Sciences held its annual Field LIVE event in the IU Kokomo Art Gallery. Editors and contributors celebrated another successful year of student creativity and insight as demonstrated in Vol. 8 of the journal.
Field is a journal that highlights student work in all areas including scientific research, literature, and fine arts. Recently, they have expanded to an online platform that showcases recorded music, mini podcasts, and video.
“This journal is the product of love, attention, and creativity of the student body,” Editor-in-Chief Jim Coby said in his introductory speech. “Volume 8 was our best issue ever because of the expansiveness of student contributions.”
The event consisted of live readings of poetry and prose written by current students and graduates from May and August of 2023 as well as musical performances of music featured in the online journal. Artwork featured in Field was also displayed in the gallery so guests could view them up close to see fine details.
In addition to the event, Field has also launched the Field LIVE podcast that features students talking about their work. On the podcast, you can listen to how contributors crafted their works or formulated their research processes. You can also hear students read their poetry and prose and hear students give visual analyses for their artwork.
To see what students contributed to Vol. 8, pick up a free copy of Field wherever they are available. You can also visit the Field exhibition in the IU Kokomo Art Gallery from now until Dec. 21 or listen to the podcast provided at the beginning.
